Another resource you might check with on this is Rick Propas or Richard Binder - either of these two guys (especially Rick) has a wealth of experience with vintage and modern Pelikans and they'd definitely be able to set the record straight. If you buy a 140 you are stuck with the nib it comes with because you can no longer buy replacements. That said the modern Pelikans are a good choice with a range of excellent nibs and with an interchangeable nib unit you can have several available for the one pen.
